Bombshell on the Box – Linda alert!

MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (Film4, Sun  Jan 17, 4.50pm and Thurs Jan 21, 5pm)

Playing Chihuahua, the feisty firecracker of a saloon singer, sultry bombshell Linda Darnell lit up the screen in John Ford’s poetic western My Darling Clementine in 1946.

She may not have had to do much more than pout at Victor Mature (playing Doc Holliday), flounce her skirt and flash the occasional shapely leg at Henry Fonda (Wyatt Earp) but she looks wonderful – and this was undoubtedly the best of the 40-odd films in which she starred. After all, it is a masterpiece of American cinema…
