Honeymoon in Vegas
So, Katie Price and Alex Reid became the latest in a long line of celebrities to get hitched in Las Vegas. Their nuptials yesterday at the Wynn Hotel were filmed for ITV2, and as much as we here at BB HQ aren’t fans of old Jordan and her latest squeeze, it got us thinking about bombshells that had wed in Las Vegas over the years.
Back in 1943, original pin-up girl Betty Grable tied the knot with bandleader and trumpeter, Harry James, on July 5, at the Little Church of the West – one of the first wedding chapels in Vegas.
A year before, Mickey Rooney had married Ava Gardner – on January 10, 1942 – the first of eight weddings he had at the same chapel!
In 1949 Zsa Zsa Gabor married actor George Sanders, of Jungle Book fame (and was to return to Vegas in 1982 to marry Felipe de Alba)
The Sands Hotel played host to the nuptials of Rita Hayworth and singer Dick Haymes on September 24, 1953, and two years later, Joan Crawford married Alfred Steele, the then chairman of Pepsi-Cola at the Flamingo Hotel, on May 10.
Brigitte Bardot’s third wedding, to German playboy Gunter Sachs took place in Vegas on July 14, 1966, and a year later at the Riviera, Ann Margret, star of Viva Las Vegas, married TV star Roger Smith – wearing a cute white mini dress, on May 8, 1967.
In 1985, British bombshell Joan Collins married husband number four, Swedish businessman Peter Holm on November 3 at the Little White Wedding Chapel.
