Alexander McQueen

February 11, 2010

We at BB HQ appreciate the finer things in fashion, and Alexander McQueen’s designs certainly were that.

So we were stunned today when we heard of the British designer’s death – an apparent suicide – at the age of just 40.

McQueen lost his mother Joyce on February 2, and his close friend and mentor, fashion icon Isabella Blow, had committed suicide herself just three years ago.

We’ve been focusing on modern-day bombshell Dita Von Teese this week and the burlesque queen was a big fan of Alexander McQueen’s designs, wearing this bright blue dress and Union Jack clutch bag combo (left) to a book signing in LA at the end of last year.

And she looked stunning earlier this year in a houndstooth check McQueen dress (right) at her Stripteese book signing in Waterstone’s in London.

McQueen was a master of both the dramatic, and the exquisitely tailored.

He had many celebrity fans, including Dita, and was awarded a CBE in 2003.

He was due to show his latest collection in Paris next month.
