Be a Bombshell in the air!

March 1, 2010

Clockwise from left Marilyn in How To Marry A Millionaire, a furry arrival, modelling in-flight pre-Marilyn days, paparazzi on arrival

Many of our bombshells spent time in the air, flying from one red carpet to another. Marilyn Monroe certainly spent a fair amount of time on board, as our montage shows.

She, like us, must have known the awful effects of in-flight air on our skin, but we bet she never had a wonder product like this  – Origins All-Purpose High-Elevation Cream (£20, www.origins.co.uk).

We are loving this travel essential. It’s a fabulous rich, non-greasy moisturising cream that delivers long-lasting, and immediate, hydration to dry patches to the face and body.

Use it on cheeks, arms, legs, hands, pretty much wherever you need it. It contains Shea Butter, combined with sunflower, jojoba, safflower and sesame oils. Absolutely perfect for a bombshell who spends time up in the air, at high altitude. Make sure you arrive as beautiful as you set off, just like the gorgeous Ava Gardner, above, with then husband, Frank Sinatra.

And for a bit of fun, why not check out two bombshells from the 1920s/30s in the clip from 1970s disaster movie Airport 75. Gloria Swanson looks amazing playing herself, and Myrna Loy is hilarious as Mrs Devaney. We don’t recommend her choice of a bourbon with a beer chaser  – known as a boilermaker – as an inflight tipple if you want to arrive at your destination looking fresh!

This week it’s destination LA for many a star, and for us in spirit at least. We’ll be celebrating the Oscars all week on Beauty Bombshells with round-ups of all the winning and nominated bombshells from the past, beauty tips for party nights (and the morning after) and lots of trivia on the biggest night in the film calendar.

Oh, and this week we’ll be focusing on the bombshell who was honoured the most at the Oscars – Bette Davis. More on her from tomorrow.
