Oscar bombshells?

March 8, 2010

Oscars 2010, clockwise, from left; Sandra Bullock, Cameron Diaz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Kruger, Kate Winslet, Veronica Lake

We were pretty underwhelmed here at BBHQ with the lack of Oscar bombshells on the red carpet last night. Sandra Bullock did wear a beautiful golden shimmering metallic gown, created from vintage fabric to accept her Best Actress award, but well, she’s not really bombshell material is she?

We think Sandra looked slightly uncomfortable in her super-sexy frock, but her bombshell red lipstick and sleek hair were more than a nod to Hollywood glamour of old. Cameron Diaz would have to be our honorary bombshell for the evening though   – she looked radiant once again in a gorgeous gold Oscar de la Renta gown and also pulled off red lipstick and big hair perfectly.

Kate Winslet was elegant in Yves Saint Laurent, and was most definitely channeling bombshell Veronica Lake through her hair, but well, it was all just a tad dull for us.

As for Sarah Jessica Parker – last year she turned up in a crazy ‘barely mint’ Dior gown, that she was busting out of all over; this year she opted for a 1960s inspired Chanel couture butterscotch sheath with metallic detail and a very odd neckline. SJP may think, because of her alter-ego Carrie Bradshaw, she has to be fashion forward all the time –  but we’d rather she just turned up in a stunning dress to be honest!

Diane Kruger was also fashion forward in Chanel, but we loved the actress’s cream and black gown – she reminded us somehow of 1930s bombshell Marlene Dietrich!
